frequency response have been fully optimised for this application. The optical receivers output is fed
into a seperate signal control box (other black box) which contains an active brick wall filter and headphone amp. The brick wall has a passband of 300 to 4000hz and
provides a fast rolloff of 36dB per octave for low end and 24dB per octave for the high. Which equates to -70dB @ 100Hz and -30 @ 10KHz. The -70dB @ 100Hz is important to eliminate low frequency rumble & 60 cycle noise. Control box has active filter
output and raw detector output for feeding into computer for further signal processing. (We use a laptop and an audio cleaning program called DC Six from Diamond Cut Productions.)
Amplitude for active filter output is adjustable (via potentiometer) for best signal to noise ratio.
Control box has a seperate headphone amp for live feedthrough monitoring. Amp has volume control pot w/ built in on/off switch.
The optical receivers detector & preamp are completely sealed from environment & shielded from EM and electrostatic interference. The sealed input window to detector is antireflection coated to prevent
back reflections into optics train. Optical receivers output amplitude is also adjustable. Receiver has a 3/8in. tapped hole for mounting on heavy duty tripod control heads.
Laser mic works great on residential double pane glass. In real quiet conditions we are able to hear a test subject breathing through their nostrills while standing 10 feet from the test
We can't legally sell a complete laser mic system so you'll have to acquire a laser. We purchased a 650nm 10mW laser module w/ adjustable focus for $12.00 and the results were impressive for the price. These are ok for short range (50 feet or so) but for longer ranges like 300 to 400 feet 150 to 200mw is required.
The best kit available costs $400.00 w/ trivial electronics and constructed from PVC pipe.
The price of a laser mic can be as much as 50 grand. This one works just as well...
Batteries not included: Requires four 9 volt batteries. 1 for the detector, 1 for the headphone amp and 2 for the active filter circuit.
