This Eberline ASP-1 Analog Smart Portable isn't called a Smart Portable for nothing and will TRUMP about anything on the market in the field.
This instrument is based on an Intel microcomputer and can do anything you want it to do.It can be calibrated to any reading MicroR Mr R Sv Gy or pulse count.
It has 6 multiplier scales of X100,X1K,X10K,X100K,and an unbelivable 1 million and 10 million scales only achieved through digital processing.
The meter scale is a simple 1.0 so there are no odd or uneven scales to read + a high voltage scale.(built in high impedance high voltage meter)
The possable scales are X.001,X.01,X.1,X1,X10,X100,X1K,X10K,X100K,X1M,X10M user selected at time of setup for what ever the requirement may be in 6 ranges.
This is the best field instrument I have ever used because it is easy to use and light weight with an extra large easy to read 31/2" wide division meter that is the
highest quality well balanced taut band meter that is updated every 1/2 second by the computer that is like a countinous readout scaler and even has back lighting for night use.
( Digital displays tend to be small and hard to read in the field as radiation is not a constant so it is harder to determin if there is an increase or decrease and they don't fair well
in the heat or direct sun and can turn black or self destruct in a short time when exposed to the direct sun and heat)
The high rate audio is also super with audio deviders of 1,16,64,or 256 ( when set to 256 you only hear one in 256 pulses like a slow mentonome at higher rates.
The audio is super easy to recognize even the slightest change from a speaker that is housed in an acustic compression chamber that will accept airline type headphones
but I have never needed to use as the audio is quite easy to hear at 10 feet away.
This instrument also has dead time correction of none to 254 microseconds in 2 microsecond steps typical dead time for gm is up to 100 microseconds depending on the probe and 2-10
microseconds for scintillation probes as they recover faster.
Dead time compensation is a giant step forward in probe responce and accuracy as the electronics compensate for the probes slowness to recover from event to event.
The high voltage can be set directly on the meter and ranges from 300-2,500 volts (this range of voltage will power just about any probe you want to use including gm,scintillation,
air proportional,and even neutron detectors.
This instrument also has adjustable threashold of 2-50 millivolts as well as gain adjustment that pretty well eliminates any preamplifier unless the probe cable is extremly long.
One other feature is the intigrate or dose rate that can sample in 1 second 1 minute or 1 hour time bases
This instrument is completly referbished using parts from others as well as an inventory of new parts on hand and was pulse count calibrated on one pulser and varafied with a second one.
The end window probe is sensitive to ALPHA above 4 MEV, BETA above 70 KEV,and GAMMA-X-RAY above 6 KEV and has a directional focus with the window open due to the
lead shielding that also makes the probe a hihg energy compensated GAMMA probe when the window is closed
